If you’re anything like me, you wait until you just can’t use your old computer anymore because it’s too slow- then you upgrade with the least expensive parts possible. I did this in 2018, and I kind of wish I’d have waited! Why?
When I built my new PC I got an AMD Ryzen 5 1600- a 4 core 8 thread processor which was, at the time, AMD’s newest architecture- and a clear winner! AMD has since come out with its successor, and that’s driven prices down- way down. On top of that, RAM is a whole lot cheaper now. My point? If you’re looking into upgrading, NOW is the time. Check out the deal on the Ryzen 5 1600X on Amazon right now.
That’s about half of what I paid for a lesser version of it- and it is FAST. Plenty fast for anything I’ve thrown at it thus far- and I use the computer in my daily work from home job. Right now you can get 16GB memory for less than $80, a 500GB SSD disk for under $70, a motherboard around $100, and re-use your existing peripherals to have a computer that is heads and shoulders above anything else for the price. NAND prices are on the rise, so SSD’s are about to get more expensive. If you spend just a bit more for 32GB of memory, it’ll last ou a nice long time. The PC will perform great and it’ll drive a medium performance video card quite nicely if you don’t already have one.
I think if you get just about any of AMD’s offerings, you’ll be very happy with the performance. Thanks for reading!
