Broken Seat Back Repair

Reviving my 88 Suburban means that I’m tackling some long overdue repairs. I am documenting them along the way, and I hope it’s useful to you.

Broken Seat Back

A common problem for 73-91 Suburbans and Crew Cab pickups is that he seat back breaks, causing the seat to flop around and be extremely uncomfortable. This was the case with my 1988 Suburban.

Check out the video below for a narrative on what needs to be done and how you can go about it. I’ve included links to some of the tools and supplies I used in this repair.

I already had zip ties and the Gerber Suspension multi-tool, so my cost was under $30. I strongly recommend the Gerber Suspension in general though- it’s the best I’ve ever owned, especially at the price! Here are the tools used, and below is the YouTube video.
